Your toothbrush can only access the front and backs of your tooth’s surface, therefore only removing dental plaque from these areas. Dental floss reaches those surfaces in between your teeth to ensure all of the plaque is removed from your mouth
What is dental plaque?
Plaque is a the layer of bacteria which continually grow onto your tooth surface, it it this exact bacteria which can cause two things:
By removing this layer of bacteria daily from in between teeth will greatly reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease form developing, of course in association with good toothbrushing and a limited sugar intake.
In addition, daily flossing also removes any lodged food particles and helps to freshen breath in the process
TOP TIPS
A common question we are asked is if you should still floss if your gums bleed. The answer is yes! The reason your gums bleed is a sign of gingivitis (mild inflammation of the gums) or sometimes even gum disease. By cleaning that area you are helping to prevent gum disease, and persisting in these areas, in time the gums will become healthier and the bleeding should stop.
